Room 17 Te Manawa Visit

Room 17 had a wonderful trip to Te Manawa to see the dinosaurs. Some of the big dinosaurs were scary and we were brave and went in to look at them. We went to dig for dinosaur fossil bones and we found some to make the dinosaur shape. We had some other fossils to look at and hold. There were shell fossils, leaf fossils and bug fossils. We walked on the dinosaur footprints and some of them were big and some of them were small.

Making Soup with mr Wilson

We are making  vegetable soup with Mr Wilson because we are learning about measuring.
We have to be very careful with the knife when we are cutting up vegetables because it is sharp!

Here we are waiting for our turn to cut and measure the vegetables.

Robert is helping Mr Wilson to cut the vegetables  and Ryan is watching very carefully.

Now it is Ryan's turn to cut the vegetables. Just as well he was watching carefully before because now he knows how to do it.

All the vegetables are cut now and the soup will need to be cooked over in the staff room. We will have it at lunch time in Room 17.

Clue Poem

I have water in me
I have a lid
You fill me up
You use me when I’m thirsty
You can carry me
Use me after a run
What am I?

Learning about Patterns with Mr Wilson

We have been learning about making patterns with Mr Wilson. Emma and Ryan have made a brown and blue pattern with bottle tops.
Eva and Jonte are happy with their pattern too. Our patterns are two colour patterns.

Scarlett and Mackenzie have made a yellow and blue pattern. We needed to practice making patterns because we wanted to make pattern bracelets to sell at Market Day.

Working With Our Room 3 Buddies on Our Assembly Item

We worked with our Room 3 buddies on learning poems. Each group had one poem to practice and learn. Then we had to present it on a large piece of paper. We did drawings about the poem. It took a long time. We said the poems at assembly and showed our work. Everyone said it was a good assembly.

In the story the bear's features are described :"One wet shiny nose, two big furry ears, two big googly eyes, It’s a BEAR!"
So Rm17 changed our Bear Hunt to a Cheetah Hunt.  Here is how we described them.

PMP in the Hall

Going Around The track Stations

Here we are going in and out the poles. We are following the leader.

Here we are jumping over the hurdles. We jump over in different ways. We can go fast.

Here we are on the balancing beam. Our arms help us to balance.

Our Awapuni Library Visit

We went to visit the Awapuni Library. Terry, the librarian is talking to us about the library.
Terry is reading a book to us. After we listened to the book we chose books to read for ourselves. Some Mums and Dads came with us to the library and read books to us.

Room 17's First Week

What a great first week Room 17 children have had. They have been doing lots of reading and writing. They have been counting as well and they had a lot of fun playing Bingo which will help them to recognise the numbers to 20.

The children have also been learning about doing their morning jobs. Above is a photo of a faces continuum which will help them to assess how they are doing with their morning jobs. Ask your child what their morning jobs are.

Fun in the sun...
